Great Food Truck Race – Flagstaff

Oh what a day!  My day started early with a call that Food Trucks from the Great Food Truck Race (A Food Network Show) were in front of my shop. You have no idea how much this excited me. I (along with others) had been stalking them around town. I love this network, I love this show and I love reality TV. I was in heaven.  When I got to the shop with wet hair and no makeup (there is no way I am missing a thing!), there is not 1 but 4 and soon to be a 5th truck around my store. There are two directly in front (Momma’s Grizzly Grub and Pizza Mikes). Around the corner are Nonna’s Kitchenette and Seoul Sausage and then a few stores down is Barbie Babes.

Pop A Waffle stayed in the Sam’s Club parking lot. I heard they broke down. Just a rumor, I was not able to confirm this information one way or another.  West of Atlanta (name?) was over by the library I hear but again I did not see that with my own eyes.

This post also serves as my May Daily Photo post of Treat. How appropriate! And no it wasn’t planned.

I started with a meatball sandwich and a beef steak sandwich (splitting with my husband) from Pizza Mikes. I am Italian after all.

I really enjoyed both. I like the meatball Parmesan the best, Way liked the beefsteak the best. That is why we get along so well, we never seem to fight over food and when we do, he lets me win.  My initial plan was to space things out so I could eat a lot throughout the day.  But the shop was SO, SO busy. It ended up being the 2nd busiest day in our 2 1/2 year history. I ended working a lot on my day off. Oh Well. A girl has got to do what a girl has got to do.

But when someone mentioned the hazelnut banana grilled sandwich, I left and headed over to Nonna’s Kitchenette.

I think all I need to say here is heaven! OMG. So good. Everything is better with Nutella on it! I was really itching for some Seoul Sausage but the line was so long. Later I heard they were having some issues with the oil. No idea if this was true or not, so I didn’t get any. Very sad about this. If they are still in town tomorrow (and the rumor has it that they might be in Sedona) then I will try to get me some sausage.

I went to get wings from Momma’s Grizzly Grub but they were out. Very Sad. I did try the cookie truffles though and they just melted in my mouth. Oh so good.

The Momma’s Crew did try to find me for some wings later but I had already left. So props to them!  It was pleasure having them use our bathroom. :-)

It was about this time that a secret ingredient was introduced. Cactus. How appropriate for Arizona.  My shop was swamped at this time so Kevin graciously went and got a Cactus Pizza (and took the picture) from Pizza Mike. Pizza Mike got a lot of press from me today because he was located right outside!

Work, work, work. That is what I was doing for a while. I did find time for a quick burger from Barbie Babes. OH. SO. YUM. This picture is from Arturo that I stole from him because I ate mine so fast I forgot to take a picture of it.

I can not even begin to tell how much fun this day was even though I was working on my day off. My feet hurt, I am exhausted and a bit cranky but I would do it all over again.  Thank you Food Network and The Great Food Truck Race for coming through Flagstaff. You made this girl very, very happy!
